CeCe Peniston
American recording artist CeCe Peniston entered the music industry as a backing vocalist on the Overweight Pooch album Female Preacher, released in July 1991 on A&M; Records. Besides her backing-vocal performance on the track “I Like It”, released as a single, she was also given a credit for co-writing two compositions; “Kickin’ Da Blues” and “Female Preacher”. Peniston then went on to start her own solo career. Peniston recorded and released her own single “Finally” and debut-album, also named Finally. The single was released in August 1991 and was followed by the album on January 28, 1992, both through A&M; Records. Both the album Finally, and the single of the same name, were certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and the album by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). They also earned two Silver certifications from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
